Volvo Cars chief executive Hakan Samuelsson has called on the European Union to reduce the 10% tariff on US-made cars, arguing that European carmakers do not need protection from US competition. At the same time, Brussels and the European auto industry are trying to persuade Washington to cut the 27.5% duty on European cars. Volvo, majority-owned by Geely Holding, is affected by the taxes, as most of its vehicles sold in the US are imported from Europe.
