Voice actors in Germany, through the VDS Association, have initiated a boycott against Netflix due to controversial contractual clauses that allow the use of voice recordings for training artificial intelligence systems, without clear compensation. This decision comes amid the increasing demand for dubbed content, amplified by the success of popular productions.
Actors fear that AI could affect their jobs and copyright rights. VDS, which brings together approximately 600 members, has hired a law firm to analyze the impact of these contracts. Netflix responded with a letter, stating that the actors' concerns are based on a misunderstanding and invited VDS to discussions. VDS President Anna-Sophia Lumpe emphasized the pressure on actors, mentioning that Netflix will broadcast content with German subtitles if the boycott continues. Although there are no precise data on the scale of the protest, voice actors continue to generate reactions in this context.
