Democrats and Republicans are battling in 50 key races for control of the House of Representatives

Approximately 50 of the 435 races for the House of Representatives, scheduled for the November 3 midterm elections, could determine whether Democrats win the three seats they need to take control from Republicans.

The contests are concentrated in states such as Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. In several districts, the outcome is uncertain, with candidates facing close races or rematches after the 2024 elections.

Redistricting is one of the main new features of the election. Republican-led states such as Florida and Texas, as well as California, which is governed by Democrats, have redrawn electoral maps to benefit their own parties. In California, Democrats hope to win up to five seats from Republicans, while in Texas Republicans could gain as many as five seats.

Among the closely watched contests are those in Arizona, where two seats are being contested, and Pennsylvania, where three Republicans face difficult races. In Iowa, tariffs imposed by Donald Trump and rising agricultural costs are putting pressure on Republicans. In Texas, candidates are competing in districts along the border with Mexico and the Gulf Coast. The final outcome will depend on these competitive races.
