In a recent action, the American military conducted attacks on three vessels suspected of drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of eight people. The U.S. Southern Command confirmed that these vessels were navigating known drug trafficking routes. Since the beginning of September, under the leadership of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, the U.S. has destroyed 26 vessels and killed at least 95 people as part of this campaign. These attacks have been accompanied by significant military mobilization in the Caribbean, including the largest warship in the world. President Trump stated that the goal is to combat drug trafficking, while Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro suspects it is a pretext for regime change. A controversial incident occurred when survivors of an initial attack were killed in a second attack on the same vessel, leading to accusations of war crimes. Hegseth stated that he did not order the second attack, attributing it to an American admiral.
