US forces attacked a high-speed boat in the Caribbean Sea on Sunday, October 4, 2026, on suspicion that it was being used for drug trafficking. Four people were killed in the operation, according to US Southern Command, which announced the attack on October 5.
The command said the boat was operating along routes known for drug trafficking and that available intelligence indicated its active involvement in such activities. The US military also released video footage of the attack, but did not provide evidence that the vessel was carrying drugs.
The Trump administration began targeting people described as “narco-terrorists” in September 2025. Attacks on boats in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific have so far killed at least 235 people.
President Donald Trump claims that the United States is engaged in an “armed conflict” with Latin American cartels and that the strikes are necessary to stop drug trafficking and overdose deaths. Experts and human rights organizations, however, dispute the legality of the operations, which they consider extrajudicial executions.
