A 38-year-old woman was arrested in Luhansk, Ukraine, after she attempted to sell her six-year-old son for the sum of $25,000. The incident occurred last Friday when the woman showed up for a meeting with a supposed buyer, who alerted the authorities. The police intervened at the moment the money was to be handed over.

The child was already under the attention of social services, and the authorities are investigating possible deficiencies in the case management. The woman, with a criminal record for theft, stated that she resorted to this act due to a lack of financial resources and a desire to no longer care for the child. She is now accused of human trafficking and faces a severe prison sentence, having been placed in preventive detention. The boy has been taken to a care center.
