The diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Syria were resumed on Wednesday, following a meeting between the leaders of the two countries at the UN. Ukraine severed ties in June 2022, after Syria recognized the independence of the regions occupied by Russia. With the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Syrians have changed their perspective on the conflict in Eastern Europe. President Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to support Syria on the path to stability and called for the removal of Russian influence in the country, promising food aid. The Syrian leadership expressed a desire to have close relations with Kyiv.
