The Parliament of Ukraine has approved the appointment of Evgeny Hmara as the new Minister of Defense.

The Ukrainian Parliament approved on Wednesday the appointment of Yevhen Hmara as the new Minister of Defense, according to the Reuters news agency. President Volodymyr Zelensky nominated Hmara, who was previously the acting minister, following the dismissal of Mykhailo Fedorov in July.

The appointment was supported by 312 parliamentarians, thus exceeding the necessary threshold of 226 votes to form a majority. On Tuesday, Zelensky submitted Hmara's candidacy to parliament, and former minister Fedorov called for elections, despite the ongoing war with Russia, less than a month after his dismissal. This change in the leadership of the Ministry of Defense comes at a crucial moment for Ukraine, which continues to face the challenges posed by the military conflict.
