After the summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that Russia, and Putin in particular, is acting cunningly and only respects force. Tusk said that the future of Europe and Ukraine had entered a decisive phase and called for the West to remain united. The European leaders signed a joint declaration calling for security guarantees for Ukraine and rejection of ceding territory to Russia. Following the summit, Tusk reiterated the need to keep up the pressure on Moscow, while Trump suggested that a peace deal is now more necessary than additional sanctions.
