The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday the proposal to build a military pipeline for supplying fuel to NATO members on the eastern flank, in the context of the issues caused by the war in Iran and the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz. The ministry's spokesperson, Zeki Aktürk, highlighted the importance of the initiative, which would reduce dependence on maritime transport. The pipeline, with an estimated cost of 1.2 billion dollars, would connect Turkey with Bulgaria and Romania, primarily aimed at supporting NATO's military objectives. The technical details of the project are classified, but it is expected to be discussed at the NATO summit in July in Ankara. The project is part of the expansion of the NATO Pipeline System, originally built during the Cold War. Turkey, despite having limited fossil fuel production, could utilize existing infrastructure to connect NATO's front lines.
