Russia welcomed the statement of American President Donald Trump regarding the imposition of tariffs on NATO allies as a result of the dispute related to Greenland.

The President of the USA, Donald Trump, threatened to impose tariffs of 10% on NATO allies, including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, until an agreement is reached for the purchase of Greenland, with tariffs increasing to 25% from June. Russian officials, such as economic negotiator Kirill Dmitriev and former president Dmitry Medvedev, welcomed these statements, considering them a signal of the "collapse" of the transatlantic alliance. Medvedev mocked NATO's unity and suggested that Trump should hurry to annex Greenland, reflecting Russia's interest in exploiting the tensions between the USA and its allies. At the same time, several EU countries supported Denmark, signaling concerns about NATO's cohesion.
