United States President Donald Trump is expected to speak by phone on Monday with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following the latest round of negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine. The information was confirmed to the Kyiv Independent by a U.S. official familiar with the situation.
According to the source, Trump will speak first with Putin, then with Zelenskyy, after his special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, brief him on the results of the discussions.
Witkoff and Kushner were in Moscow on Saturday, and arrived in Kyiv by train on Sunday. The two met with Zelenskyy in Sofia Square after a visit to the cathedral, then held discussions about efforts to end the conflict.
After the first round of negotiations, Jared Kushner said that Donald Trump is firmly determined to end the war. Zelenskyy announced that new rounds of talks would take place in Kyiv, first with the American envoys, and subsequently with the participation of representatives from France, Great Britain, and Germany.
The U.S. envoys left Kyiv on Sunday night heading into Monday, aboard a train operated by Ukrzaliznytsia.
