American President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the United States will use frozen Iranian assets to compensate the owners of ships and goods damaged as a result of Iran's attacks in the Persian Gulf.

In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump specified that this measure will apply "until further notice." He emphasized that all damages caused to ships and related goods will be covered by Iranian funds under U.S. control. The announcement comes in the context of escalating conflict in the Middle East, with recent attacks on Saudi oil tankers claimed by Houthi rebels from Yemen, supported by Iran.

The U.S. administration accuses Tehran of responsibility for attacks on maritime transport, especially in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also mentioned that the idea of using Iranian assets for compensation is not new, having been discussed previously within his administration.

This decision extends the approach to compensate not only Gulf allies but also the ships and cargoes affected by Iran's actions.
