U.S. President Donald Trump called on the Senate to approve the Sunshine Protection Act, the bill that would eliminate the seasonal time change, less than a day after Republicans lost the elections. Trump argued that Americans should no longer have to change their clocks and promised to continue supporting the initiative, although he acknowledged that there are more important priorities.
In a message posted on Truth Social, the American leader complained that it gets dark too early. He noted that the sun set at 17:06, and by 17:31 it was already dark, comparing the situation with previous days, when it was still light at the same time.
Trump stated that he did not want to turn the subject into a major issue before the elections, so as not to affect the chances of some Republican senators. According to him, the House of Representatives sent the bill to the Senate several times, and the initiative received bipartisan support: 308 votes in favor and 117 against.
However, the Senate did not bring the bill up for debate. The Sunshine Protection Act seeks to make daylight saving time permanent and do away with changing the clocks in spring and autumn. Trump did not indicate a timeframe for resuming the legislative efforts.
