A tragic railway accident occurred in northeastern India, in Hojai district, where a train bound for Delhi collided with a herd of elephants, resulting in the death of seven pachyderms and the injury of another. The incident took place on Saturday morning at 2:17 local time, in an area that was not designated as an elephant corridor, according to information provided by Northeast Frontier Railway.
The train driver applied the emergency brakes, but the elephants rushed towards the train, causing the locomotive and five carriages to derail. Fortunately, no one among the passengers was injured. Trains running through that section have been diverted, and repair work is currently underway.
