The incident occurred when a tourist sat on a Swarowski crystal exhibition chair for a photo and the object collapsed under his weight. The Palazzo Maffei Museum filed a complaint, but the visitors fled before being identified. The artwork, created by Nicola Bolla and inspired by a painting by Van Gogh, has been restored and is back on display. The museum published images to raise public awareness of respect for works of art.
