Ruter, the public transport company in Oslo, secretly tested electric buses manufactured by Yutong and found that they can be started and stopped remotely by the manufacturer. Although the technologies of electric buses and trolleybuses are different, Ruter notified the Norwegian authorities about the cybersecurity risks. Tests showed that the Chinese manufacturer has access to the functionalities of the buses, including software updates and diagnostics. The director of Ruter emphasized the need for collaboration with the competent authorities to establish clear security requirements. In Norway, over 1,000 Chinese electric buses are in operation, and the authorities are working to assess the associated risks. The Bucharest City Hall recently announced the purchase of 22 Yutong trolleybuses, raising questions about their safety.
