Maria Branyas Morera, an American-born woman, has died at the age of 117. She was recognized as the oldest known person in the world by the Gerontology Research Group. Branyas was born on March 4, 1907 in San Francisco, and at the time of her death was living in a nursing home in Olot, Spain.
