The World Health Organization (WHO) is intensifying preparations for a possible nuclear incident in the Middle East, considering the risks posed by attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. Hanan Balkhi, WHO's regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean, stated that UN personnel are closely monitoring the situation and updating guidelines to assess health risks and protect the population.

This includes response measures in the event of an attack on nuclear facilities or the use of nuclear weapons. Balkhi emphasized that the damage could have a long-term global impact, recalling the accidents at Chernobyl and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

In the United States, discussions about the escalation of the conflict and the use of nuclear weapons have been fueled by concerns expressed by Donald Trump's advisor, although the former president has dismissed these speculations. In the context of current tensions, attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities continue, including the recent attack on the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
