The Supreme Court of the United States ruled, with a vote of 6 to 3, that Texas can use a new electoral map, which could help Republicans win more seats in the 2026 elections.

This decision nullifies a previous ruling that had suspended the use of the map, deemed to be created on racial grounds, which is illegal. Judge Elena Kagan, representing the progressive opinion, criticized the decision, emphasizing that the map violates the Court's instructions regarding the use of racial criteria in delineating electoral districts.

The new map was adopted by the local congress in Texas and was influenced by Donald Trump's pressure, aiming to maintain the Republican majority in Congress. It fragments areas with a Latino and African American majority, diluting the Democratic vote. In response, California Democrats approved a new electoral delineation to strengthen their position.
