The U.S. Senate, with a Republican majority, adopted a resolution on Tuesday aimed at stopping U.S. military action against Iran, in the context of negotiations for a peace agreement with the Islamic Republic. The vote was 50 in favor and 48 against, with four Republicans joining Democrats in support of the resolution. This is the first time the Senate has successfully voted on such a measure, reflecting growing concerns about the unpopular conflict. The resolution mandates the withdrawal of U.S. armed forces from hostilities with Iran, but it is symbolic in nature, as it was not sent to the White House for signing. The White House contests its constitutionality, and legal experts suggest that its implementation could be challenged in court. The resolution was adopted in the context of the Pentagon requesting $80 billion for the war with Iran, highlighting existing tensions within Congress.
