Chris Wright, the U.S. Secretary of Energy, announced that the U.S. Navy is currently not capable of escorting commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, although he suggested that this capability could be available by the end of the month.

Wright explained that U.S. military resources are focused on destroying Iran's offensive capabilities, in the context of regional tensions. In an interview, he stated that preparations for escorting ships are already underway.

These statements come in the wake of a recent attack by Iranian forces on an American ship in the Persian Gulf, an incident that resulted in one death and caused a major fire on board the vessel. Indian authorities reported that the attacked ship, Safesea Vishnu, was struck by an unmanned speedboat, which prompted a reaction from the IRGC.
