A U.S. appeals court has ruled that the Department of Energy exceeded its authority by gradually eliminating a factor that inflated the fuel economy of electric vehicles. This rule was challenged by 13 states, which argued that the overestimation of the efficiency of electric vehicles allowed manufacturers to produce less efficient gasoline vehicles, increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The ruling is seen as a victory for Republican states, which argue that electric vehicles contribute to the deterioration of road infrastructure.
