A federal court in North Carolina has decided to allow the use of a new electoral map, drawn by Republicans, which could help the Republican Party gain an additional seat in the House of Representatives in next year's midterm elections. A panel of three judges rejected requests for a preliminary injunction, stating that no direct evidence was presented that the map was created for racially discriminatory purposes. Instead, the judges concluded that the 2025 redistricting was motivated by political purposes. The map aims to change North Carolina's 1st congressional district, narrowly won by Donald Trump in 2024, and represented by Democrat Don Davis. This decision has been criticized by activists, who argue that the map will negatively affect the votes of the Black community. North Carolina Senate Republican leader Phil Berger stated that the new map supports Trump's agenda, while Democrats in other states, such as California, are seeking to counter these changes.
