The United Kingdom and Norway have announced the formation of a naval alliance to protect underwater cables in Europe and monitor Russian submarines, in the context of an increase in attacks on underwater infrastructure – considered by NATO experts as "the most active threat" to Western security. The new cooperation includes joint patrols and enhanced surveillance measures in northern Europe.
