John Healey and Boris Pistorius agreed to collaborate to monitor the activity of Russian submarines in the North Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic Sea. This meeting marked a year since the signing of the defense cooperation agreement between the two countries, which was initiated in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Under this new agreement, Lossiemouth in Scotland will become an important base for P-8 Poseidon surveillance aircraft, capable of attacking submarines. Pistorius emphasized the importance of this surveillance for protecting critical infrastructure, such as submarine cables and offshore wind farms. He also highlighted the need for NATO to become more European in order to remain transatlantic, considering the pressures from the U.S. for increased defense spending by European members. Healey pointed out a 30% increase in the activity of Russian ships near British territorial waters, describing it as evidence of "Russian aggression on all fronts." This expansion of British-German cooperation is a direct response to perceived threats from Russia, aimed at sending a clear message to Putin.
