The UN Security Council has postponed until next week the vote on a resolution proposed by Bahrain, aimed at ensuring freedom of transit through the Strait of Hormuz, according to diplomatic sources quoted by Reuters. The vote, initially scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed until next week, without a new date being set.

If adopted, the resolution would allow states to use "all necessary defensive means" to ensure transit through the strait, which has been effectively closed since the beginning of the war. The proposal faces opposition from China, Russia, and other states, which warn that it could legitimize the illegal use of force and lead to an escalation of tensions. China's ambassador to the UN, Fu Cong, emphasized that such an action would have serious consequences for the situation in the region.

Bahrain's mission to the UN did not provide comments on the reason for the postponement of the vote.
