The meeting was convened at the initiative of France and Bahrain, according to the announcement from the Israeli Embassy to the UN. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently condemned the escalation of tensions in the region and called for an immediate halt to hostilities, following the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, as well as the Israeli response. Guterres emphasized the need to de-escalate the situation to prevent a further escalation of the conflict.
