The UN Security Council has decided to extend for the last time the mandate of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) until December 31, 2026, planning the withdrawal for 2027. The decision was influenced by pressure from the United States and Israel, which believe that the mission has failed to limit Hezbollah's influence. While Israel and the US welcomed the decision, other member states and Lebanon expressed concerns that a premature withdrawal could destabilize the region.
