The Turkish parliament has voted to accept Sweden's application to join NATO.

The Turkish parliament's favorable vote sends Sweden's membership application back to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for a final approval before the document is submitted to the US State Department in Washington. Sweden applied to join NATO about 20 months ago, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
