The case refers to the period in 2021, when Cristiano Ronaldo left Juventus for Manchester United. At that time, the Italian club and the player agreed on an arrangement called 'Ronaldo's letter', whereby 19.5 million euros of outstanding salaries were to be paid later. However, this document was not recorded in the club's accounting and was not paid, which led to arbitration and, subsequently, to a trial. 'Ronaldo's letter' was discovered in March 2022, following a raid as part of the Prisma investigation, which led to the resignation of president Andrea Agnelli and the old Board of Directors.
In 2023, Ronaldo initiated legal proceedings to recover the amounts, and the parties agreed to resolve the dispute through arbitration. In April 2024, the arbitration panel decided to award Ronaldo half of the total amount, namely 9.77 million euros, plus interest. Juventus contested this decision, but the Turin Court upheld it, rejecting the club's appeal.
