The Norwegian Parliament decided on Tuesday, with 141 out of 169 votes, to maintain the monarchy, rejecting a proposal to transition to a republic, despite a recent crisis in the royal family. Supporters of the monarchy argue that it provides stability, while those who want a republic believe that power should return to a president elected by the people.
Recently, Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been criticized for her connections to Jeffrey Epstein, which has generated controversy. A recent poll shows a decline in public support for the royal family, from 72% to 61%, while support for a republic has increased from 10% to 27%. Additionally, Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Hoiby, has been arrested on serious charges, including rape.
