The Dutch government announced on Wednesday the suspension of intervention regarding the chip manufacturer Nexperia, following constructive discussions with Chinese officials. The Minister of Economy, Vincent Karremans, emphasized that this suspension is a gesture of goodwill and that discussions with China will continue. Nexperia, a subsidiary of the Chinese company Wingtech Technology, is essential for the automotive industry and other technology sectors in Europe. The Netherlands took control of Nexperia on October 13, citing governance deficiencies, but this decision led to restrictions from China, which banned exports of Nexperia chips. This situation has contributed to chip shortages, affecting European automotive production, including Volkswagen, which temporarily suspended production of several car models. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association warned about the risks of production stoppages due to dwindling reserves.
