On Sunday evening, a meteorite fell in the Güls district of the city of Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, damaging several houses. At 7:00 PM local time, the meteorite created a 30-centimeter hole in the roof of a residence and damaged the bedroom floor. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported. Witnesses described the impact as having a sound similar to a car collision.
The phenomenon was also observed in other areas, including Baden-Württemberg, and the "trail" left by the meteorite was visible in the sky. The police received numerous calls from different states, but they did not find any aircraft fragments, as was initially speculated. Authorities quickly ruled out any connection to rockets or other security events, assuring that there is no danger from radioactive or chemical substances.
