The Syrian authorities announced the evacuation of trapped Kurdish fighters in two neighborhoods of Aleppo to the autonomous Kurdish area in northeastern Syria, following a ceasefire declared by the Ministry of Defense. Recent violence has led to the deaths of at least 21 people and forced thousands of civilians to flee the city. The ceasefire was being respected on Friday morning, and security forces began to enter the predominantly Kurdish neighborhood of Achrafieh to organize the evacuation.
Local authorities reported that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) will be transferred with their individual weapons to the autonomous area. Although the evacuation was announced, the Kurds have not confirmed the agreement. Clashes occurred in the context of difficulties in implementing a March agreement for the integration of Kurdish institutions into the Syrian state.
