The Greenlink project, a 190 km high voltage cable between Great Britain and Ireland, has been redirected to avoid the altar dedicated to Dobby, the house-elf from Harry Potter.

The cable, intended to supply Ireland with energy, was to be installed between County Wexford and Freshwater West beach in Wales, the location where Dobby's death scene was filmed. Fans built an altar on the beach, leaving painted stones and socks as a tribute.

The National Trust agreed to maintain the altar but asked fans not to leave socks for ecological reasons. Protests were intense, and the director of Etchea Energy, Simon Ludlam, mentioned that they received hundreds of calls from fans. In response, the company redirected the cable to protect the memorial.

The project is set to be operational in 2025, with the capacity to power 380,000 homes, without affecting Dobby's grave.
