Marie-Therese Ross, a 86-year-old French widow, was detained on April 1 in Alabama by agents of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her 90-day visa. She is now in an immigration detention center in Louisiana, targeted by the deportation policy of the Trump administration. The French government, fully mobilized, has intervened to secure her release, with Consul General Rodolphe Sambou visiting her twice and maintaining contact with family and officials in the U.S. and France. Sambou emphasized that, considering her age, it is urgent for her to be released. Ross married William Ross, a military veteran, last April, and he passed away in January. The French government has contacted DHS to request her release, but details about her legal status remain unclear.
