Philippa Karsera, the First Lady of Cyprus, announced on Sunday that she will step down from the governing committee of a charitable fund, following allegations of corruption. In a Facebook post, she mentioned that she will make the official announcement during a meeting of the Independent Social Support Agency (AFKS). The decision comes after the release of a secret video in which prominent figures discuss circumventing campaign spending limits and facilitating access for business people to the president and the First Lady. The government has rejected the allegations, calling the video a hybrid activity intended to damage the country's image. In the context of the political crisis, opposition parties threaten to withdraw their support for the coalition government, and Cyprus is preparing for parliamentary elections in May and presidential elections in 2028.
