The European Parliament has adopted a firm position regarding the revision of EU rules for air passenger rights, voting with 652 votes in favor. The deputies decided to maintain the compensation threshold for delays at three hours, rejecting the proposal to increase it to four or six hours. Compensation remains between 300 and 600 euros, depending on the flight distance. Additionally, the Parliament wants to update the list of extraordinary circumstances that allow airlines to refuse compensation payments. Among other measures, rules are proposed for providing drinks and meals in case of prolonged delays and the introduction of pre-filled forms for refund requests. Passengers will be able to carry one hand luggage of up to 7 kg and one personal item for free. The EP emphasizes the importance of protecting vulnerable passengers, requesting priority boarding for persons with reduced mobility. The adopted position will be sent to the EU Council for negotiation, and if no agreement is reached, a conciliation committee will be convened.
