Olof Gill, spokesperson for the European Commission, stated that the EU will respond firmly to any violation of commitments from the trade agreement with the USA. The White House announced the launch of investigations to document the economic damages suffered by the United States, targeting approximately fifteen countries, including the EU, and possible new tariffs.

The European Commission contests the inclusion of the EU in these investigations, emphasizing that the sources of structural overcapacity are in other countries, particularly in China, which is accused by Brussels of creating unfair competition. China, in turn, criticized the USA for "political manipulation" of the situation, dismissing the arguments regarding overcapacity as erroneous.
