Kaja Kallas, head of the European Union's diplomacy, stated that she is ready to propose new sanctions against Iran in response to the brutal repression of protesters. Currently, the EU already has sanctions in place for human rights abuses, nuclear proliferation, and Tehran's support for Russia in the conflict in Ukraine. Kallas emphasized that the measures could target Iranian ministers and include travel bans and asset freezes.

The protests in Iran, which began on December 28 due to economic issues, quickly transformed into discontent against the government and the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. Kallas highlighted the courage of Iranians who risk everything to express their opinions, despite the brutality of the security forces.
