Previously, Kaja Kallas accused the United States of pressuring Ukraine to accept a capitulation on terms imposed by Russia and called for the European Union to be present at the peace negotiations to balance Washington’s position. In the same context, she linked the escalation of the war to Moscow’s refusal to accept a ceasefire in the energy sector and to the intensification of bombardments against Ukraine.
Also before the statements in Brussels, Kallas warned the European Parliament that Russian attacks were targeting routes used for Ukrainian grain exports, estimating losses of approximately 60 million euros per day and saying that commercial vessels had been attacked repeatedly off the coasts of Romania and Bulgaria. At the same time, she proposed increasing military aid to Ukraine by one billion euros from the European Peace Facility and announced that she was working on discussions for a moratorium in the Black Sea, in response to attacks on ports, maritime transport, and logistics infrastructure.
