European Union officials believe that the United States will soon modify the 50% tariffs imposed on products derived from oil and aluminum, a problem that has strained transatlantic trade relations.
The decision could be announced in the coming weeks, according to sources in the American press. The EU has long requested a reduction of these tariffs, arguing that they violate the recent trade agreement, which provides for a cap of 15% for most European products. Currently, over 400 products are subject to these tariffs, and expanding the list complicates the operations of European companies. Although Brussels has requested a reduction in tariffs, Washington has refused, demanding in return the elimination of European digital legislation.
