The European Union could take measures to withdraw funding granted to developing countries that support Russia or Iran, according to statements by Kaja Kallas, the head of European diplomacy, ahead of the meeting of development ministers in Brussels. Kallas emphasized the need for a new aid distribution policy, mentioning that partners who support hostile regimes need to be reassessed. Although support will not be completely abandoned, the EU will prioritize its own interests.
This statement comes against the backdrop of preparing the Global Gateway investment strategy, with a budget of 300 billion euros, aimed at infrastructure and energy projects in developing countries. European Commissioner for Development, Josef Síkela, emphasized that investments must become a tool of influence, favoring European companies. The main objective of the Global Gateway program is Africa, but Asia and Latin America are also targeted for investments. Projects are implemented through the European Investment Bank.
