Kevin Hassett, the principal economic advisor to the White House, emphasized that moderate Democrats will take the necessary steps to reopen the government, thus allowing negotiations on political issues. The impasse was caused by disputes in the Senate regarding federal funding priorities, with Republicans supporting a temporary resolution and Democrats demanding additional funds for health insurance. Hassett mentioned that some Democratic senators avoided the vote for fear of having a negative political image.

If the impasse continues, the White House may take additional measures to compel Democrats to return to negotiations. Democrats, on the other hand, insist that they will not accept reopening without guarantees for health programs.
