Mame Mandiaye Niang, deputy prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), stated that the sanctions imposed by the Trump administration treat ICC judges as "terrorists and drug traffickers," affecting their daily lives. Niang, targeted by these sanctions in retaliation for the arrest warrants issued against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasized that such measures undermine the credibility of the court in The Hague. He explained how the sanctions affect his personal and financial aspects, including the inability to use his credit card and to transfer money to his family. Although he acknowledges the role of sanctions in international relations, Niang warned that attacks on the ICC risk nullifying the legitimacy of this court, which adjudicates war crimes. He mentioned that the arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin have not yet led to actions in court, considering that the ICC relies on states for the arrest of suspects.
