According to an estimate by the State Department, the administrative blockage in the U.S., which has reached its 40th day, has had a significant impact on arms sales to allies, including Ukraine. Delays in the delivery of critical equipment, such as AMRAAM missiles and Aegis systems, affect NATO countries like Denmark, Croatia, and Poland, which support Ukraine. A State Department official emphasized that these delays harm both allies and the American defense industry, considering that the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs is operating with only a quarter of the necessary staff.
U.S. law requires a Congressional review for each arms transaction, and this process has stalled due to a lack of personnel. Republican officials accuse Democrats of obstructing essential sales, while Senator James Risch warns that China and Russia are taking advantage of these delays to strengthen their military influence.
