A teleprompter operator who worked at the White House since 2016 is accused of using insider information to place bets on the words that Donald Trump would use in his public speeches.
The man earned nearly $100,000 through transactions on a prediction market platform, which allows users to bet on real-world events. His activity was reported by the firm, which froze the man's account before he could withdraw the winnings.
By analyzing the account data, the company discovered that the user was a federal employee, which led to an investigation. The White House press secretary confirmed that the man is on unpaid leave and will no longer work at the White House.
The CFTC stated that it cannot confirm or deny any ongoing investigation.
