President Donald Trump is accused by the Democratic opposition of using public money for political propaganda after a television advertisement featuring the Republican leader was aired, just a few weeks before the United States midterm legislative elections.
The 30-second black-and-white clip was broadcast on Sunday during American football games. Donald Trump appears walking down a corridor while excerpts from speeches in which he attacks supporters of the war, communists, and globalists are played. The closing message states that the material was “paid for by the U.S. government.”
Democrats Mike Levin and John Hickenlooper called the video propaganda and argued that it is illegal for taxpayers’ funds to be used for political advertisements. The White House rejects the accusations and says the material is an educational and patriotic “public service announcement,” not an election advertisement.
The video had also been posted by Trump on Truth Social in 2023, but at the time it was presented as being financed with his campaign funds. The administration maintains that the current material does not urge people to vote, while Trump recently asked voters to view the elections as if he himself were a candidate. Another government advertisement aired last week praised his achievements and repeated the slogan “America will never be a communist country.”
