Taiwan has announced the cancellation of President Lai Ching-te's visit to Eswatini, scheduled for this week, due to pressures exerted by China on three other African countries. Lai was set to participate in the 40th anniversary of King Mswati III's accession to the throne. The Secretary-General of the Presidential Office, Pan Meng-an, stated that Seychelles, Mauritius, and Madagascar unilaterally revoked the flight authorizations for the presidential plane without prior warning, emphasizing that the real reason is the intense pressure from Chinese authorities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar confirmed that it rejected the request for overflight, stating that it respects national sovereignty. Taiwan, which has official relations with only 12 countries, considers China's actions to be unprecedented and a violation of international norms, affecting flight safety and insulting the feelings of the Taiwanese people.
